All Things Current Project

My time has mostly been taken up with Girl, Inc. stuff, but I have gotten in a few “Next Project” sessions. Yay!

I’ve been working on figuring out what the story is. lol: I wrote a book, but I don’t know what it is… But it’s true. I just sat down and wrote it, no planning, no nothing. So it’s something, but…what? I don’t know. But I’m thinking it might be a… Supernatural thriller? It’s got a fantastical element and there’s something like a crime and a high-stakes deadline, so, yeah… I’m thinking it’s a supernatural thriller. I’d say paranormal thriller, but I’m not sure that’s a legit genre according to BISAC. And playing nice with BISAC is one way that I can help people like you find books like mine, so yah, baby! Supernatural thriller it is!

What I’ve Been Reading

I finally found a book to get me back into reading fiction. Another yay!

It was Lincoln Child’s Chrysalis. It’s a thriller about virtual reality. At one point (no spoilers), he has his character use VR to enter something humans normally can’t go into, and yet his descriptions had me feeling like I was right there. He’s also really, really good at making characters you might meet only once, and maybe only for a split second, seem like completely real people.2 Anyway, there’s no fantastical element, but if you’re looking for something quick and fast-paced, it’s pretty good.

Winnie Pug Update

When Winnie was a puppy, I made her a sling, and she would sit with me while I worked. Now Winnie is too big for a sling. Sometimes she’ll sit in a zipped up sweatshirt, but she prefers to drape—and I mean drape—over my shoulder. And it has to be the right shoulder. She will not go left. I’m right-handed, so if I’m trying to type, and I’m always trying to type, well…

So we made her a spot on the desk. The SO and I share a long plank for our desk, and this is her sleeping in the middle.

And yes, I could probably get defensive about all sorts of things in this photo, but I’m going to leave it at just this sentence. (And anyway, who’s really noticing when there’s a Winnie Pug to fawn over?)

But did your eagle eyes spot the two books just behind her head that are comp books for Girl, Incorrupted? If you like Leigh Bardugo’s NINTH HOUSE or Holly Black’s BOOK OF NIGHT—dark stories that add a fantastical element to the real world—then you’ll probably like GIRL, INCORRUPTED.
