The Page-a-day

We’re up to the middle of chapter 6 already! If you’ve been reading along (you can start reading here, and you can select to receive the pages daily here), then you know that the story is told in first person by two characters, and Chapter 6 is the very first chapter from the POV of the starlet.

I love the starlet’s scenes. Love, love, love them. So much fun to write. So much haute–yet–self-aware attitude I got to infuse. My favorite line of hers, though, is probably one of the very last additions I made during my very last round of edits. It’s in Chapter 29, I think. Pretty sure, anyway. We won’t get to Chapter 29 in the page-a-day, but you can always…

Honestly, I am thrilled just to be read, but preorders are extra special and extra appreciated. Preorders let bookstores know that there’s interest in a book, which makes them much more likely to stock it… which, in the case of predominantly brick-and-mortar stores, helps new readers to find it. If you are at all inclined to get yourself a copy, ordering it before the release date—from anywhere, but most beneficially from a predominantly brick-and-mortar store—is one way to help give the book an extra boost. And I so appreciate an extra boost. (And Powell’s Books, given that they are also a bustling tourist destination, is probably the most helpful in this regard. In case you were wondering.)

What I’ve Been Reading

I’m reading Gail Carriger’s backlist. I really enjoyed Soulless and the rest of the Parasol Protectorate series when it came out something like 15 years ago, but I haven’t heard much about her stuff lately, and I was thinking about how I could use a lighthearted paranormal read like hers (probably, now that I’m thinking about it, because I read her soulless manga a couple newsletters ago, when I was talking about comic books), and so I looked her up and found that she’s got all sorts of things out that I didn’t know about. So I’m catching up.

All Things Current Project

Fits and starts. The momentum will pick up sometime—it always does—but so far I’m still working in fits in starts. There’s just so much fun stuff to do with Girl, Inc. that I find myself doing the bare minimum with the current project and then frolicking off to create Look Books and Pinterest Pins and whatever else I can think of to get the word out there. But the focus will teeter soon. It always does.

Winnie Pug Update

Winnie’s been reading to her Big Boy lately. She found this book that she just can’t get enough of—as you can see, she was pretty annoyed when I interrupted her to take this pic.

I don’t know, I think I might have to check it out.
