Hello!

The sun is out and my hammock is up! Fall is my favorite season, but this spring is giving fall a run for its money. The weather and temperature are perfect! I hope you’re finding things to appreciate in your world, too.

What I’m working on

Lots! Well, two things anyway. They’re both getting closer and closer to done. I still have some text work to do on both, but the covers for both are done!

And I’m ready to show you one! I would show you both, but… well… I don’t want to jinx myself too much. I figure I should probably know how the story ends in the second one before I start telling people it exists. Even you guys. 🥸

So this cover is for The Metanaut. I do believe I shared a blurb for it a while back. Yup, here it is.

Hopefully next month I’ll have more to say about release dates and whatnot. But until then, mum’s the word as I work to finish, finish, finish!

What Else I’ve Been Up To

Not much. I’ve been studying and trying to streamline my process, which just looks like I have no life outside of writing. Which I suppose has been true. Except for lounging in the hammock. And taking the pug for a walk. But I read or listen to someone else read during both of those activities, so I suppose I’m not making a very good case for having much of a life right now outside of writing, but… I’m cool with it. 😎

What I’ve Been Reading

Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. I started over at the beginning with Storm Front and then moved on to Fool Moon. I think James Marsters and Harry Dresden are a match made in audiobook heaven. Kinda like Lorelei King and Stephanie Plum.

In Death by JD Robb. Fun Fact: I’m pretty sure my dad used to listen to these in the car. I got Passions in Death and Bonded in Death, the 59th and 60th (!) books in the series, and then started at the beginning with Naked in Death. The difference in pacing between the first book and the last books is huge. There’s hardly any narration or description in the last books, it’s all dialogue. Probably 90% at least. But I liked ‘em.

Life Expectancy by Dean Koontz. This was a weird one about a guy who’s grandfather made a list of predictions about him when he was born, a list of ominous dates to watch out for, and it involves circus clowns. It was weird, the characters were wonderful, and it all—somehow, impressively—came together in the end. The narrator was really good, too.

Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave by Elle Cosimano. In this installment, Finlay takes in her elderly neighbor when a dead body is found in the woman’s yard. Vero’s hilarious one-liners just keep coming in this one.

The Last Smile in Sunder City by Luke Arnold. This is the first book in a Dresden-like series set in a world where humans destroyed magic and it left all the magical creatures in sad states. I think there are three more books out already, and I’ll probably hunt them down.

Along Came a Spider by James Patterson. The first Alex Cross book. I know it was a big best seller and there’s a movie based on it, and now the show, of course, but I’d never read it. I read it for study, and it was good. I’m reading another Alex Cross right now.

The Deep Blue Good-by by John D. McDonald. McDonald is an author that almost all of the current big mystery writers say inspired them in some way. This is the first book in his Travis McGee series. It’s a little dated, if I’m being honest, but I’ll probably check out the rest anyway.

Spoonbenders by Daryl Gregory. This is about a famous psychic family who worked on something similar to Project Stargate and then everything kind of fell apart for them when the matriarch died. It’s told from all the family members’ perspectives and it jumps back and forth in time. I’m not quite done, but so far it’s weird and funny and I’m really enjoying it.

Winnie Pug Update

Last year she loved the hammock, but so far this year she seems less interested. I have a Sac, one of those giant bean bags, that got moved out of a dark corner to in front of a south-facing window, and she’s loving that instead. She even sits in it by herself while we’re elsewhere. Moves around every few minutes so that she stays in the sun. It’s pretty cute.

I’ll keep trying to get a picture of her, but she still refuses to pose for me. I have to be sneaky, and it’s hard to sneak up on her when she’s on the giant bean bag. Until then, here she is in profile, showing off her not-quite-puggish mug and gazing out the window. Notice the tucked paw on the window sill. I don’t know why she likes that, but she does it quite often.
