Cover Reveal!

So the next book I have coming out for you is a fun low-fantasy mystery called Corbin Kohl Adrift In Hell. It’s about a guy who has to navigate his new life after finding himself in a weird place that he thinks might be Hell, except… it’s kinda fun here.

Anyway, here is the blurb for Corbin:

Corbin Kohl is in Hell.

At least, he thinks he is. With the scorching heat, the fiery Pit at the center of the City, and his new, unpaid gig for so-called “Management,” it seems like a solid guess.

Corbin’s first assignment involves a Victor, one of Management’s most wanted. Unfortunately, the rascal has powerful abilities Management never bothered to mention. Pursuing him will demand more from Corbin than an average “Twister service” can set right.

Still, for a guy who just wants to get home again, this hellish assignment presents an opportunity. Management has secrets. But more importantly, it hides vulnerabilities. And Corbin’s first assignment might provide a clue to getting out of this infernal place.

Then again, it’s kinda fun here. And this might be the first time in years that Corbin has felt like himself.

Hang out with Corbin Kohl in a place that might be Hell, except it’s awfully fun. Perfect for fans of Jim Butcher’s light-hearted side.

It’s coming… new cover, new blurb… I’ll reveal it all in the next newsletter or the one after, I promise! I want to give Corbin his due first. He’s a good guy. He deserves a little solo time. And you should definitely check him out once the links go live!

What I’m Working On Now

Another Corbin book. He’s fun to write. That’s all I can say for now, though. 😇

Okay, I’ll say a little more… The way I’ve been starting Corbin’s books is by picking up a random book from my shelf, opening to a random page, slapping my finger down onto the text… and using whatever concrete detail shows up first to start the story.

(In the first Corbin book, I ended up cycling back and adding some stuff, but I note the detail I started with in the book’s dedication… if you’re curious…)

The detail for this second Corbin book was … brow-raising, to say the least. How would that even fit into this world? I’m not sure it does.

But I stuck with the process—and the detail—anyway. I wrote the first sentence of the current story using that detail (and that sentence is still the first sentence)… and in this morning’s writing session, the detail just paid off.

It’s kind of amazing what the creative mind can do if you just let it.

What Else I’ve Been Up To

Since I sent you the last newsletter? Nothing. Not a thing. Just writing and getting all the publishing stuff finished and also getting some business stuff set up. I’m finally sitting on a fairly solid three-legged authordom stool. It’s still kinda short. My knees are touching my chin. But at least I’m no longer tipping over cause my stool is missing a leg.

I’ll see if I can get a spot of fun in this month to tell you about next month.

What I’ve Been Reading

Nothing to report. I have a book I’m reading, but I’m so ready for bed at the end of the day that I’ve only been getting a couple pages in a night. So it’s very slow going. I should probably look for some more audio books. Until then…

Winnie Pug Update

Winnie’s looking forward to Fall. She’s got a little more snout than most pugs, and it helps her handle the heat a whole lot better than most pugs… but she’s still not a huge fan of temperatures over 85. 80, if we’re being real, but the heavy panting and the looks of misery start at about 85. And we had a lot of hot days this summer. It’s too bad, really, because when it’s not too hot, she’s a sun pug. She even hangs out in it all by herself on occasion.
